The wisdom hidden in every loud and loving moment of South Indian parenting is more than just guidance, it's an art. Cherish the lessons, they last a lifetime.
Sidz, Ur observations are really precise. Indian parenting is doleable. And we who have experienced it with the full attention of our parents on the minutest detail and demand are trying to transfer to kids adding new inputs. After all, we are INDIAN PARENTS!!!!
Hi Sidz. Yes this all I have also experienced. In our Gujarati Community also this type of parenting. I m late weakening person. Always late awake aram se. Till when I m 45, I have never saw rising sun accept in childhood schooling time. Like you I have also left schooling after 11th std. And when I was 45 I have started my study in tour and travel I have to go in mu class early because of I was Journalist and no other time I have to go class. So that time I started to wake up early and then that practise still remaining. After in Travel industry being a travel agent I m entering now coaching Industry like you. So atvpresent early morning I m wake up at 4.45 for one My Course of commando training. But after complete session I m again sleeping. I m also trying to say that every morning I have also to listen my mom's boom that wake up nilam, why are you sleeping so much. But not like south Indian type mom and dad. But this tradition also in our culture. About food also our elders are saying their children or grand children that eat much more. How your body is slim. You have to be fat. Like khate pite ghar ke log Hai. It is phrase. 😃😄 But I like south Indian culture and tradition very much. Kash I also born in south Indian family. Dance, food, love, Festivals, Temples, human nature, language love etc they are very good in every thing. So, today I have read your this blog after read title. I saw title and eagerly want to read it and immediately I started to read. Nice thinking and story of you. But this story you have to give in your voice in podcast. In this article you have a voice of AI. Right? That is I not like. In your voice this story being very attractive. But good story. Nice to read and know your thinking this type of.
This is not just the story of South Indian family….its the story of every Indian family. We all have passed through the same stage and same lessons of life.
Correctly pointed Sid,the values and learnings, we learnt in our early stages are the stepping stones for our future.
But, have little doubt, will we be able to establish same values in our kids?
Time and surroundings have changed.Dont know, will our kids understand these values?
Yes! Good question!! The influences today are way different compared to the 80/90s. That’s why get them into vibrant leaning communities like ILH is safer than sending them to university 😊
Ayyo Sidz! Plain love whether South, North, East or West Parent love is always over powering and overprotecting. Only sambar and rice is replaced by dal makhani and parattas.
Hahaha 😅 😅😅😅 Yes only food keep on changing 🥪🥪🥗🥗🥗 parenting style is same...even my sis in USA says ...all the plp from India they go to one near by church..and they r also residing in Area where Indians are their neighbors....it's like mini India In USA... all r quite same...not that much crowded...😅😅😅At home Indian Style of parenting ....outside home ...quite...her kid take advantage once they go out...she knw ...now mom dad won't shout...😅😅😅😅I think Indians are every where...we dnt feel alone...🌎🌎😍😍By God's Grace❤️❤️❤️❤️
All these episodes were quite common is every household, perhaps all over the subcontinent. Especially, when the families were large with three generations were huddling together, life was dynamically cacophonic, in every respect, all over day through night. Only a break for all this drama was during the midday after lunch, when elderly household were taking a nap. Those were the golden memories for those who have experienced and digested the imparted wisdom into their veins, which we labelled as "culture." This culture is continuously been distilled down generation after generation in different avatars with modifications, but the essence remain constant.
truly appreciate the way its put across. we see this situation everyday in our houses. its put across humorously yet with some knowledge and lesson in it. Hats off.
All those advice or approach from my parents molded me in the way I'm right now. But being in Chennai, the one thing I really miss is the food my mother make. Soon I'll be with her for this Onam again to have that warmth. Thanks Sidz for this beautiful post that brought back my sweet Memories.. MPTY
South India family home -complete Vada sambar idly dosa - served with cacophony full blast - multi generation reality beautifully portrayed with pride and insight like no one else but Sidz can! Love the serving. Saar - 'one more filter coffee sugarless please...soooda venum'
I always have been thinking of my mom nagging behind me- only till I got married and started nagging on myself n my hubby :P Hehe Much relatable Sidzziiee!!!
True, we would like to break away from the old traditional ways of parenting. We have to be bold to go for new ways without fear of being discouraged and Negative attitude of others will turn into positive one, once success is tasted.
"Every 'Ayyo' and 'Enna Da?' is a reminder of love and resilience.
Thank you for capturing the heart of South Indian parenting so beautifully!"
