Students are also not as innocent as you think.Yes of course nowadays too much infooverload & recorded lecs.Still students look forward to what teachers bring in because they are confused where to learn from what to learn and how to learn.Writing exams & daily grind grind of school creates discipline,resilience,tolerence,EI..etc is what I think.

Education,Reading and Fetching degrees opens your mind and give you priceless experiences...Post laying a foundational degree of whichever field you like you go to a startup or entrepreneurship..otherwise somewhere in life you shouldnt regret if at all....all those who migrate abroad..........Now vocational skill based education are common...learning by doing & experimentation is what Design field is all about But of course due to the University systems.....semester patterns...rules & regulations....& less freedom for teachers....teaching is one aspect......lot of administrative duties.....events.....arranging guest lecs.......workshops.......whole bunch of duties gets added...But someone has to teach abcd to learn physics.........someone has to teach physics to create a scientist...dont knw what to say Sidz....one side is the requirement from the boards.....universities.....one side is the creative.....approaches....innovativeness in teaching pedagogies etc .....How much ever you write qualification with skills is a prerequisite for hiring ......and all industrys require people for work...

First of all people should be courageous to know the truth about education, which is nowadays a painful journey studying things they are least interested, which are most of the times never used. They should change their mindset that "So and so degrees fetch high paying jobs" and "today's trends is studying so and so." Another madness is securing a pensionable job, so that till death one can survive (What a spineless thing one can imagine). Everyone should shed their security trap and focus on nurturing the inborn skills of the children, which makes them have total freedom by doing what they love. See that these children are best and give their best in their vocation.

Exactly very much true!

Time for Parents awakening.

They should be bold and wise, not look for social approvals.

I was tutoring a student doing 5th std at his home. His younger brother doing 1st std insisted tuitions for him also. I started to tutor him. He was very dynamic and very curious. He will not sit at place. His brother will score high 90-100 range. The 1std student will score around 60-70 only. When I asked him," Why did you not write all answers you know? You could have scored higher."

He said,"I know the answers. Once I score around 90, it will become a problem. My mother will start to ask me so low even if I get 80 in later exam. It is better this way. See my brother's case"

He has seen through the pressure issues.

When I explained about so legendary (fictious) test by Galileo dropping iron balls and feathers from Pisa tower to prove that both will reach the ground at the same time, he got excited: climbed on the table, dropping a pen and a paper.

So curious.

(Now he is preparing for ssc board exams, crushed by system)

It is a story that resonated well with my life journey.I am glad that after completing my studies( MBA )and fulfilling my parents dreams, working few years in corporate, I was able to break the shackle of big fat salary. This story is like an eye opener to many middle class families.Believe me, it only takes guts and calculated risk and effort to come out of this maze.

Rightly said Sid,if we don’t run behind degrees, we can be successful in the field we love ,and that would be real happiness of life, where work wouldn’t be taken as burden.

That’s why I’ve written this post. To open the minds of parents who are willing to take the risk (actually not so risky) to plan a different route for their kids.

Fab. read, Sidz! You’ve hit this at the right place—our education system is in dire need of a wake-up call. Degrees without relevant skills are holding so many people back, and it’s time we shift the focus from outdated credentials to real-world capabilities. And Re education ... I resonate with your Grandpa's value "Do not let your schooling come between your education "I follow the same with my son, For working professionals and parents alike, this is a crucial reminder to encourage curiosity, embrace digital skills, and move beyond the traditional “safe” path. Empowering our kids to think differently is the first step toward breaking this cycle. Let’s build a future that’s not just secure, but meaningful!

True Siddharth, time has come when the children and parents think and act out of the box, instead of following the old pattern of education and expecting to succeed in life following it.

Presently skills r on hand and simple dueto efforts made earlier by degree people and they simplified and created different tools such as AI, coding which can be used by everyone. In conclusion, it's been simplified for everyone.

I can totally relate to this story. Our current education system only focusses on degree and marks and not on the actual life skills that are required for success. Very nicely narrated story . I m sure all middle class people can relate to this story in some way o the other. In fact in out ancient tradition we had something called gurukul which emphasized more on these life skills rather than degree. We have totally lost the essence of that. Life skills are more important than degree or grades.
