In the world of coaching, not all coaches are created equal. You may have come across different types of coaches—some who leave you inspired and others who leave you... well, less so. In this post, I’m going to share the three kinds of coaches you'll encounter in the industry. But before you self-diagnose, let’s dive into what really separates the meh from the masterful.
1. The Copy-Paste Coach
Picture this: a coach who spends hours scouring the internet for YouTube videos, attends every webinar in existence, and takes meticulous notes—only to regurgitate that information in their own courses. These are the "Copy-Paste Coaches," who haven’t yet walked the talk. They know a lot about things but have very little firsthand experience.
Sure, they may sell a few courses, but when their students try to apply the knowledge, results fall flat. Why? Because real transformation comes from lived experience, not a "Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V" strategy.
Do you really want to be the coach who’s just recycling knowledge without any personal touch? I didn’t think so. 🚫
2. The Doing Coach
Next up, we have the "Doing Coach." Now, this type has leveled up from the copy-paste days. They've actually rolled up their sleeves, put in the work, and applied what they've learned. This coach takes action, tests their strategies, and only then shares it with their students.
As a Doing Coach, you’re getting closer to the sweet spot. Your students benefit because they’re learning from someone who’s applied the knowledge, and that’s where the magic happens. You’re not just handing them theory; you’re giving them results-driven insights. If you're here, congrats—you’re doing a great job!
But there’s one more level... and trust me, it’s where the true power lies.
3. The Being Coach
Ah, the Being Coach—the pinnacle of the coaching world. This coach doesn’t just "know" or "do"—they are their topic. It’s part of their very essence. They live and breathe what they teach. Every word, every lesson they share comes from a place of deep internalization. They don’t need to bombard their students with tons of content because even the smallest bit of advice they offer resonates at a core level.
The students of a Being Coach? They see transformation, not just education. Their learning goes beyond surface-level tips and tricks—it shifts their mindset, their approach, and ultimately, their life.
If you want to become a coach whose students don't just learn but evolve, then striving to be a Being Coach is your ultimate goal.
So, which type of coach do you want to be?
